Local Unsung Hero
Nominated by: June Morris
Minding My Business celebrates black execellence 365 days a year, and we would like to introduce to some and present to others, our local unsung hero, Mr. Benjamin I. Green III
Ben Green, aka DJ Ben G! ~Mr. RNB!, is a Syracuse University grad who started his radio career there as a news announcer for The Minority Report. Always passionate about radio, he created his DJ persona “Ben G!~Mr. RNB!” and crafted segments for the hit show “360 Ebony Degrees.” In 2004, he launched his mobile DJ business, which later brought him back to online radio. From 2009 to 2014, he broadcasted “The Funk Show” to online listeners worldwide and briefly aired on East Orange’s Xhale Radio.
Ben is also an educator (Cert. K-6) and a media production entrepreneur. Before teaching, he spent over 20 years in the radio/TV industry as an announcer, DJ, producer, and in business roles. Even before podcasting took off, he was teaching first graders to produce a 1-hour radio show back in 2009. Ben has always encouraged students and alumni to use their voices through writing, speaking, and podcasting. His AnotherBenG! Production started as a mobile DJ business and expanded to include voice-over projects and digital promotions.
In 2019, he started a podcast series documenting Hispanic culture and highlighting students and alumni of color from Syracuse University. Ben has taught Math and ELA at Catapult Learning Center, along with running a STEM after-school program. He was also involved with Hobby Quest, teaching magic, photography, fashion, robotics, and drones.
While teaching 4th and 5th graders in Newark, Orange, Plainfield, and Paterson, Ben encouraged students to create their own podcasts. With the rise of social media, he began creating digital stories to complement his podcasts and promote friends’ businesses. His videos are featured on his website, officialanotherbeng.net, and his “Minding My Business” launch.
In 2024, Ben retired, marking a new chapter in his life. When he’s not creating digital content, he enjoys mountain biking and writing. He plans to release an e-book titled “Where I’ve BEN!” and may feature it on his podcast soon. #syracuse #syracuseny #syracuseuniversity #music #television #podcast #dji #djlife #djset #radio #radioshow #teachers #teacherlife #EastOrange #eastorangenj #producer #announcer #mediaproduction #media #entrepreneur #mindingmybusiness #digitalstorytelling #worldwide #industry #retirees #mountainbike #mountainbiking #writing #writer #writerslife #blackexcellence #blackexcellence2024 #BlackExcellence365 #inclusion #inclusivity #financialliteracyforkids #financialfreedom #financialliteracy #BAM
