Verne Wilson

As Minding My Business continues the celebration of Black Excellence, 365 days of the the year, we highlight our next Giant making a huge difference in the mental health field, Verne Wilson.
Verne Wilson has served as a counselor at Maryville University since July of 2017. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, and his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Verne is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Missouri and has been working with college-age students since 2010. Verne enjoys working with students on a wide range of issues but has a special interest in working with students surrounding trauma, alcohol/substance use, and family and relational concerns.
Verne serves on the Board of the Quell Foundation. He also serves on The Higher Education Suicide Prevention Coalition planning committee for the annual HESPC Suicide Conference. Verne also serves on the planning committee for the Missouri Partner In Prevention annual conference on mental health, alcohol, addictions, and sexual violence called the Meeting Of the Minds Conference covering over twenty-four Missouri Colleges as well as surrounding States. MOM is one of the largest prevention conferences held. Verne works with a group of African American Therapists for the past three years providing Community Mental Health workshops once a month.
In his free time, he spends time with his family and provides mentoring for a male group of students from sixth grade to twelfth grade. Verne enjoys relaxing by watching his favorite pastime, football and action movies.
